Getting here

Dunton Hot Springs sits in a fold of the San Juan Mountains, along the West Fork of the Dolores River, a restored 1880s mining town that the modern world has largely left alone.

To reach it, you’ll turn off Highway 145 onto County Road 38, 21 miles from the highway. The final 8 miles are unpaved, climbing steadily into the mountains before delivering you into the valley. You won’t pass through Dunton on your way to somewhere else. You have to mean to come here.

We’ve always believed the hardest places to reach are often the best ones to find. The dirt road is not an inconvenience, it’s the beginning of the experience, the point where the pace of things changes and the valley starts doing its work on you.
